The beginning of the story starts at the end of Frankenstein's life. Written in 1818, Frankenstein follows Victor Frankenstein's triumph as he reanimates a dead body.

Victor Frankenstein, a strange but brilliant scientist, discovers a method of imparting life to inanimate matter. The Monster is thus born: a hideous, 8-foot-tall creature of muscle, speed, and intellect.

Frankenstein is saved from a melting ice float by Walton's ship and a friendship is realized. Frankenstein entreated Walton to help him defeat a monster whom he alone created, which he feels has sworn vengeance on him and humanity. Frankenstein therefore tells Walton his life story including that he alone figured out how to create life.

Considered by many to be the first science fiction novel, Frankenstein is a powerful narrative that explores complex themes of belonging, morality, and the consequences of the power over life and death.
